"Two candidates nominated by The Tea Party to run for state Senate seats won't be on the ballot because they're too young.

Thirteenth District Senate candidate Thomas Murdock of Troy and 15th District Senate candidate Heather Sartorius of New Hudson were both born in 1990 and won't be 21 by Jan. 1, 2011, the date they'd take office if they won"

Considering the Tea Party claims to be all about a return to abiding by the Constitution, you would think they would make sure they knew what it said about state congressional eligibility requirements.

I am no fan of the tea party, nor of dems and reps. I agree they should have learned the requirements. Still, a question, if they were elected could they just delay taking the seat til they are 21?

Thanks for the visit - I have yet to figure out how to get any traffic. Any tips? As to the question, I think it would depend on the specific state constitution. I know for US Congress and Presidency, the US Constitution specifically states the seeker must be of age by the standard date of swearing in. Maybe if the state's constitution had slightly more ambiguous language, they could make a case.

I think you are right. I guess if one of them ran and won, they could test it in court.

As to traffic it takes time and work. One way is to comment on other articles. I came here because you commented on mine. Invite more people, at least 50, to be friends., Original articles will usually do better than seeds. Mainly it is becoming visible, showing you have something important to say. Try to comment on stories as soon as they are published, more will see it. Put at least 10 tags on each story. Always make the first comment on your posts and vote for them. Controversy gets attention. Most controversy is in politics and religion. Try to answer everyone who comments on your stories, then visit them and comment. Edit and always be honest. Post at least 5 times a week. Get a colorful avatar. Good luck. I will try to check your column a few times a week,.
